Concerned about cultural heritage? Would you like to play an active part in protecting it?

Join the Belgian Committee of the Blue Shield !

We call on our members and volunteers when an emergency threatens our heritage.

Membership costs just 25 euros per calendar year. In this way, you enable Blue Shield Belgium to :

  • expand the network of experts and call on your experience and knowledge, depending on your profile (heritage protection, conservation-restoration, crisis management, communication, public action, legal advice, etc.).
  • undertake heritage protection actions in emergency situations
  • promote the involvement and participation of society in the protection of cultural and immovable heritage
  • strengthen the Belgian Committee’s operations at national and international level.

As a member :

  • you can participate in activities such as study days, meetings and conferences, either free of charge or at a reduced rate
  • you have access to training courses organized exclusively for members. For example, there has already been a Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) course in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, and there is currently a training course on operational responsibility for crisis management in emergency situations (Crisis Response Team).
  • you can follow or take part in field exercises
  • you can call on the expertise of the network and its members
  • you can expand your network in Belgium and abroad
  • you are invited to attend the Annual Meeting in Brussels.

As a member and volunteer, you will also receive the quarterly newsletter. As a member of a national committee, you will also have access to :

  • Blue Shield International online training courses
  • the Blue Shield International Forum, a platform where members from all over the world can share information, ask for help and discuss topics of mutual interest
  • the Annual Meeting of Blue Shield International
  • informal international meetings with national committee members from all over the world, organized online about four times a year
  • to the Blue Shield International newsletter.

How can I become a member of Blue Shield Belgium?

Send your concise CV and covering letter by March 31 to the general secretariat: office[at]blueshieldbelgium.be. This will enable the committee to situate you among the various expertises in culture and heritage, crisis management or another field represented among the members.

The Board collects all applications and presents new members at the Annual Meeting, held in Brussels in May/June.
